Gateshead hosted two work experience students recently: Matthew Bowman (19-23/8/24) and Lucas Cartner (2-6/9/24). Matthew and Lucas had similar experiences whilst at Gateshead, spending at least half a day in each department which included Production (Assembly & Test and Machining), Procurement, Finance, Project Engineering, Spares and QHSE.
Both students reported a positive experience:
Matthew said, “a personal highlight for him was seeing the designs and the work in project engineering then being implemented on the shop floor by the Fitters and seeing the end products”. Matthew added “all the staff I have encountered this week were incredibly friendly, passionate about their work and easy to talk to. This made learning about each department very interesting and easy for me who has very little knowledge of some of the work that goes on. I am glad I took the time to complete my work experience at Clarke Chapman, I can see myself working in the engineering industry in the future”.
Lucas said, “I have really enjoyed my week at Clarke Chapman. I found it interesting in all the different departments, learning about the wide variety of jobs here, and how they are all linked together to operate the company. It has given me a great understanding of what the company does and how the processes work. My favourite part of the week was in the machine shop. I would like to say thank you to everyone at Clarke Chapman for having me and providing me with an amazing work experience week”.
