Gateshead
September 2008.
Clarke Chapman’s Railway Crane division, Cowans Sheldon, was recently awarded a substantial contract by Indian Railways for the periodic overhaul and supply of maintenance spares for twelve 140 Tonne Diesel Hydraulic Breakdown Cranes originally supplied by Cowans Sheldon in the 1980’s.
The obsolescence of much of the old equipment on these cranes was also prohibiting spares support. Part of the Cowans Sheldon supply included the re-engineering of components and assemblies which were manufactured at the Cowans Sheldon factory in the North East of England. By working in partnership with Indian Railways, the total overhaul and refurbishment will extend the service life of these cranes by a further 15 years, and incorporate modifications to bring these cranes up to today’s mandatory requirements.
This final shipment of components from the Cowans Sheldon facility will be in November 2008.
